Bosnia is a live recording by the American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. Someone should have talked the Funk out of that Broadway-style overture, though. You will get some of the bands best known songs such as - Inside Looking Out, Time Machine, Rock -n- Roll Soul and We're An American Band. This is one great live album by one great American bands. The first disc, which features guest guitarist Peter Frampton, includes rockers like "Are You Ready" and the band's mainstream hits, "The Loco-Motion" and "We're an American Band." The songs sound about as good as they did 25 years ago, and both the band and its audience show plenty of spirit. Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2019. Those sort of songs appear on the second disc of this collection, supplemented by a Paul Shaffer-conducted orchestra. Both were blues-based powerhouses with a taste for bombastic ballads such Funk hits as "Closer to Home" pioneered the sound that would later make Whitesnake such an annoyance. Led Zeppelin's working-class, middle-American counterpart, Grand Funk did as much as the Zep to establish pop metal. "Bosnia" is actually the reunited trio's live greatest-hits package, recorded with a 40-piece orchestra at three Detroit concerts that benefited the Bosnian American Relief Fund. They headed out again in 2019 on the “Celebrating 50 Years of Funk” tour, proving they are, indeed, an eternally road-ready American band.Although Grand Funk Railroad did compose such Vietnam-era broadsides as "People, Let's Stop the War," it's hardly the group that would be expected to produce a double-CD concept album called "Bosnia." Fortunately for listener and band alike, the concept isn't political. ![]() In the 14 years between their debut and their final studio album, 1983’s What’s Funk?, Grand Funk Railroad worked at an astounding clip, pumping out stadium-rocking jams that would become all-time classics, like 1970’s soaring “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home),” 1973’s raucous, country-tinted “We’re an American Band,” and 1974’s gospel-indebted celebration of love “Some Kind of Wonderful.” During this creative peak, they toured extensively, famously selling out New York’s Shea Stadium in 1971 faster than The Beatles did in 1965.
